Part 4 of 9
Highlights: chapter 14 of an intro physics text for life-science students introducing the basic concepts of electric currents
Abstract: Many life-science students go on to study the electric properties of cells in their upper division physiology or neuroscience classes. This chapter provides a strong grounding in the basic concepts of electric current needed for those more advanced studies. We explicitly motivate the traditional simple models. We build good physical intuition through careful analysis of increasingly complex examples, ending by introducing the elements of the Hodgkin-Huxley model of the electric properties of a neuron.
