Highlights: Activity to formalize the rules for electric potential. From the Modeling Instruction curriculum.
Abstract: This is an activity from the Modeling Instruction curriculum that is designed to formalize the rules of electric potential lines. Students compare contrasting situations in order to refine the important points about the influence of source charge and distance from the charge. The activity moves through having students draw potential lines for single charge systems, multi-charge systems, and then posit what charges could have made particular equipotential lines.
