Part 4 of 12
Highlights: chapter 3 of an intro physics text designed for life-science students focusing on the basics ideas of kinematics
Abstract: Understanding kinematics is essential for developing a good understanding of motion. This chapter introduces the basic concepts of kinematics, tying the math closely to personal experience. We start by defining average velocity and acceleration and introduce some conceptual calculus (using graphs and basic algebra) to establish the idea of instantaneous velocity and acceleration.

Instead of using traditional memorized plug-and-chug kinematic equations, we work with the basic definitions to help students learn what it means to blend physical concepts with math.
