Highlights: A set of short papers discussing various strategies to help students learn to use math in physics. Sample teaching materials included.
Abstract: Learning to use math in physics can be challenging, especially for algebra-based and life-science students. The math taught in math classes doesn't suffice; students have to learn to develop physics concepts and blend them with symbolic math. This is harder than it looks. These short articles attempt to help instructors learn why so many introductory physics students have difficulty using math in physics and to develop instructional methods to help them. The papers explain the difficulties; the sample problems and problem collections provide tools to help throughout the curriculum.
