Part 9 of 12
Highlights: chapter 8 of an intro physics text for life-science students on the properties of fluids including viscous fluid flow
Abstract: All known organisms either live in fluids or have fluids moving in their bodies (often both), and the motion of fluids provides the transport of chemicals and nutrients to an organism's cells. This chapter provides a more extensive treatment of fluids than traditional texts, including detailed discussions of partial pressures, surface tension, the Laplace bubble law, capillary action, and viscous fluid flow. We develop these properties of fluids from fundamental physical principles combined with the mathematical tools we have been developing throughout the text.
